Chapter Sixty Two: A Murder

The banner headline of The Glass Muse says it all: The Executive Secretary is dead.

And it was not just about a simple death. It is not a death that was just a rite of passage to the afterlife. A quiet and peaceful death. No, it was not anything like that. It was a supernatural demise, somewhat a mysterious death that shook the very foundations of the Commission on Appointments. The certainty of the cause of death was unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the act brings fear to some people.

Everyone agrees that the death was a premeditated murder, but the motivation for the crime was still uncertain. The Governor-General was swift to take control of the situation, and he answers every question of the press as the inquiry into this untimely death continues. The Rector of the Commission has taken over the helm, after addressing a special session of the Commission on Appointments from the despatch box.

A three-day mourning has been declared to honor the legacy of the Executive Secretary.

His death came in an inappropriate time when the erring parties to the trial of the century enters into a serious phase; for awhile, the people have forgotten about its implications and the power play involved. The newspapers immediately sold out, and a clamor for justice gains traction.

However, the Governor-General was quick to admit that there were no reliable leads yet as to who might be the murderer, and that the circumstances surrounding the crime looks very suspicious. It was almost impossible for the murder to have transpired in a seemingly apparent convenient way, while the murderer was too comfortable to flee without being seen.

Security has been blamed, of course, and immediate actions have taken place. The Commish Guards in and out of the Commission's premises have been changed, and the new protocols introduced were sweeping. As the Rector prepares to dissolve the Commission and call for an election, more lives are still in danger.

The forces of evil are starting to be felt, but no one seems to notice. It is as if the Commission was sleeping, and a nightmare is about to strike before everyone is awoken from an extremely terrible sleep.

By then, it may be too late.
