Chapter Forty Nine: A Curse

King Herenius IV was sitting behind his massive desk, silent and deep in thought when his trusted Chamberlain entered the King's Room. The King was alerted at once of the expected guest, and immediately acknowledged his presence.

"Please take a seat," the King said.

"It is my pleasure, Your Majesty," the Chamberlain replied. The guest was well-dressed, polite, and the most trusted aide of the throne. He was in his mid-age, clever, ladies may consider him handsome, and he was very capable for the job. His name is Glensard Hawk.

"Regarding the curse," the King began, clearing his throat as though he was having difficulty to speak. "Do you think they would know?"

"The stars do not lie, Your Majesty," Glensard said. "But I doubt if the Astrologers will act on it. They've always wanted to stay away from politics."

"Even if Princess Snow White is involved?" the King inquired. "You know how they are fond of the Princess."

Glensard acknowledged the thought to be valid.

"You know he didn't like me, right? I have always disobeyed his wishes, and now someone must pay the price. I never intended to drag the Princess into this," the King simply stated.

There was a pause. An awkward pause.

"We still have capable guards," the Chamberlain finally retorted. "We can win this unseen battle."

"You are right, my loyal servant," King Herenius IV confirmed the assertion. "I am just sad of the fact that after all these years, he still hated me. I guess the curse was a result of so much hatred he had towards me. He simply cannot contain it."
