Chapter Thirty Nine: The Governorship-in-General of the Commish Guards
It was early morning at the border of the Tenth Kingdom with the Province of Mapleleaf, where the early shift of His Majesty's Customs was conducting an inspection of a cargo train from the South Kingdom going to Gawkins Republic. As Brokerage Papers are being assessed, and duties and taxes are properly computed, the Governor-General of the Commish Guards have arrived at the scene for a very important matter.
The Customs Service Guard on duty acknowledged their presence while the HM Customs inspections were transpiring before them without further delay. The Governor-General quickly cleared his throat, and opened his mouth to speak, "We are here to serve a Temporary Restraining Order under the name of the Commission on Appointments."
He quickly handed down the legal paperwork to the Customs Service Guard. There was an awkward silence that followed while the papers were immediately read and digested.
"I have not received any instruction about this from the Secretary of State for Justice," he replied blankly.
The Governor-General nodded, cleared his throat again, and then said, "This is a legal order from the Judicial and Bar Council. You can be cited with Contempt of Court for this defiance. You are hereby ordered to Cease and Desist in levying duties to all goods passing through this route until the Cause of Action filed against this realm has been duly decided and the proper decision has been rendered and entered into effect."
"I understand that you are serving us a legal order under the name of the Commission on Appointments, but we have to hear from the Secretary of State for Justice first, before this operation can give way to the unnecessary technicalities of this judicial proceedings," the Customs Service Guard said with strong conviction.
"Very well," the Governor-General sighed as things were getting difficult. "We will note this disobedience in the immediate session of the Commission on Appointments preceding this formal serving of this Temporary Restraining Order, and hopefully you will be able to honor the lawful orders of the Judicial and Bar Council after that."
"That you may do," the Customs Service Guard said. "I shall also write to the Chancellor of His Majesty's Customs of your desire to serve us a legal order to halt this customs operations."
The Governor-General shook his head in disbelief. "What is the reason for this delay? I suggest that you peacefully cooperate with the arbitration of the Appointments, and don't let this be very difficult for all the parties concerned."
"Very difficult?" the Customs Service Guard said repulsively. "We are exhausting our rights within the Commission, and we are subjecting ourselves to the process necessary to arbitrate this conflict. But we do have our own procedures to follow for you to understand."
