Chapter Eight: The Commonwealth Royal
INT. INSIDE THE CORNHEIM HALL, THE OFFICIAL RESIDENCE OF THE GOVERNOR - DAY
The Governor is seen speaking with the Commonwealth Royal's Delegate to the Commission on Appointments, in the Octagon Wing of Cornheim Hall.
GOVERNOR
(Facing the Delegate)
How bad is the dispute? We have heard so much from the District of Peace that we no longer sure of ourselves, and what was really happening.
DELEGATE
(Quickly acknowledging the question with the same gesture he is using when doing his speeches)
It is bad, indeed. The Secretary of Trade has moved for a Determination of a Cause of Action. The emergency meeting of the Commission on Appointments early this week will be a pivotal moment for the District of Peace.
The Governor moved to the nearest window of the Cornheim Hall. He looked through the window, outside where the snow is falling. He carefully studied the matter for a few seconds, then started to speak.
GOVERNOR
Will there be a brewing war? We simply cannot afford another conflict. I presume that our two Law Councilors will have to balance our interests once the Cause of Action has been made?
DELEGATE
(Retrieves a scroll from his coat; he immediately hand it over to the Governor)
Our Diplomatic Mission to the District of Peace has sent us a letter expressing their concerns over the outcome of this conflict. It is pretty bad inside the Commission. The District of Peace will have to face the inevitable test of time. We have no choice.
The Governor opened the scroll and started reading it. The Delegate looks on with a hint of alarm. The situation has become very serious that fears of a civil war is pretty imminent.
GOVERNOR
(Closes the scroll)
Very well. I will recall our Ambassador to the Tenth Kingdom to discuss our options. Meanwhile, try to protect our interests in the Commission on Appointments. We must be extremely careful of the rhetoric to be used. Diplomacy must prevail.
DELEGATE
(Nodding)
Yes. Of course, Your Excellency. The Commonwealth Royal has no interest in partisan dispute where we have found ourselves in the benches of the Opposition. But it is expected that the vote will receive a bipartisan support. The next few sessions will be very crucial.
