Chapter 141: A Knight's Mistake

"Do not fall to the call of despair. The truth can be used to hide the motives of defiance. Listen to me, very carefully."

The chivalrous Knight who has just spoken was whispering to another knight as he speaks; this particular Knight he was talking to is rather the equivalent to an apprentice that is lower in stature than he currently possessed in the Order. Both of them are currently dressed with dignity, and was situated near the Northwest Gate of the Palace of the South Kingdom. Nobody can hear their conversation at this inconspicuous location.

"I do not understand what you meant by these cunning words, but I am listening intently."

"You know that Her Majesty The Queen was having an affair, isn't that correct? Everybody in the South Kingdom knows that as common knowledge. But nobody actually wanted to speak about it. No one dares. Why do you think that is the case?"

The apprentice was slightly surprised with this question, completely taken aback actually, and anyone can tell with the look on his face that he considered this statement to be treasonous to the fullest extent of the crime.

He replied with an angry, loud whisper.

"You clearly have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Nobody dares to cross the desires of the Queen because of the enormous power that she possess by virtue of the crown. Her reign transcends the borders of these lands. Far away her power awaits. And she is wielding this enormous might even beyond that which is possessed by the Commission on Appointnents; the sacred faculty was beyond imagination. It is more prudent for you to stay away from this dangerous thought."

Immediately after, the apprentice suddenly heard the sound of a chirping bird from the nearby tree. He looked at its direction with the same terrified face that he had shown the Knight earlier. It was a very dangerous topic indeed, and this conversation must now end.

"All of you do not understand the scheme that the Queen employs to these sacred realms, designed to elicit obedience from her faithful subjects while she is comfortably enjoying her high stature in society, living in this affluent castle at your expense. She is enforcing fear to discourage any form of defiance."

"Defiance? What form of defiance are you talking about?" the apprentice was outraged. "The Queen's majesty can never be questioned by anyone. It is beyond reproach, beyond the reasons of the deepest thoughts of man to speak unworthy of. This is a perilous path you are trying to choose! This is clearly treason, and it is best for you to stop this foolishness."

The disgusted apprentice was about to leave when the sound of the same chirping bird was immediately heard anew, but in a very chilling manner. His heart suddenly started to race.

"I have to leave. You clearly have no idea about power or remorse," he said with a frightened voice.

"No, do not leave just yet. Heed my call," the Knight said to him. "You cannot continue to live in this way. All of us cannot afford to do so. You have to know to recognize your intrinsic rights, and you should never be afraid to speak about the blessings of liberty, happiness, the right to be somebody you aspire to be, and to dream with the same intensity as everyone else. You do not need to be a slave to this ruthless throne. The truth is within our side. We will emerge victorious in the end."

"Your speech is good, Sir, but we live in a reality that no one else shall dare think to desecrate. There is no real fear in this realm, but absolute power."

The apprentice smiled wanly before shallowly bowing his head as he went hurriedly on his way to leave.

"You shall never be free, then! Fools! All of you! Totally blind to the fullest extent!"

As the third harrowing sound of the chirping bird descended upon the courtyard, the audacious Knight was already dead, dropping to the ground like a useless piece of cloth. The apprentice did not bother to look back to the Knight as he heard him collapse, with his back to the ground and his head facing the heavens.

His death was too abrupt, but his eyes said everything out loud. The face was definitely full of terror.
