Chapter 118: The Markings at the Gate

The Yard Gate was forcibly opened to the fullest extent; it was spread out wide, partly destroyed, with the visible markings of the harrowing leaving evidence behind that a battle ensued inside the property. It was the gate leading to hell, and the ground is a graveyard.

But this particular land is not a common parcel of land that existed in an insignificant portion somewhere in an unknown story of a boring narrative. In fact, this possession was the main object of the fortune and accumulated wealth of King Dominius I, also known as the Tenth Knight. He was a conqueror himself, and notoriously considered by his own people to be attaining the level of that of a pious life, worthy to be revered as a Confessor.

He also owned a vast territory miles and miles away from this place, and more than what the eyes can visibly see. The topography of the land was ideal, too.; there are rolling hills and fertile lands, as well as trees and lush vegetation. The climate was temperate, with colder temperatures towards the winter season, but the snow does not fall quite heavily. It was, truly, the land of milk and honey that no one can ever dispute.

But what drew him particularly within the perimeter of this glorious property is the presence of beauty that covers the materials and the fabric of the graveyard. It was too beautiful beyond reproach, covered in the blanket of the greenest grass while the architectural pieces are exemplified in its structure that are surrounded by amazing gargoyles and statues of heroic dead knights. And providing a big backdrop to this imagined scenery of lovely procured structure is the excellent façade of an old Victorian house.

The path leading to the door to that house is lined with well-manicured bushes; both sides of the lane are spaces dedicated for the tombstones of the dead. The night air provides for an ambiance that is too pleasing to be ignored, and all the peripheral details of the walls that provide for the structure of the fence and the only entrance to the yard are simply beathtaking. Picturesque. Elegant. Sacred.

However, even though the Yard Gate from where any visitor could gain entry was almost destroyed by the force needed to open it, the graveyard itself was seemingly untouched and unharmed. Whoever arrived in this place for the harrowing of the many sins is most certainly blessed and a true immaculate being, untainted in character and holy in his demeanor, even in the face of evil that defines the substantial form of an evident war. He must have blessed the area in the process, too.

A war can mean many things, but there is one characteristic from which it must truly emanate. It must come from a conflict, although forms of conflict can also mean many things. Suffice it to say that in order for a proper conflict to finally happen, there must be two (or more) opposing factions that are substantially different from one another; usually it repels the opposing impetus in visible means as it leaves a trace of violence and evidence of the destructive forces surrounding the conflict.

But this requirement of the abovementioned definition cannot be seen here. What kind of battle had to transpire in this place in order to retain its natural beauty? What actually happened in the scene did not produce chaos or disorder; it simply cleared the path for more substantial beauty to emerge from all the plenty of troubles and painful circumstances surrounding the existence of life, and within its presence are the unfathomable remains.

This graveyard is already cleansed from its sinful situation, already immaculate in its own right. The old house is totally white in its fabric; the grounds are holy, and peace envelops the factual evidence of its turbulent, but worthy, life of immense suffering.

But somewhere beyond this place, someone is looking for a suitable graveyard to replace this parcel of land. And he must start with locating the most important remains of them all, the relics of Adam and Eve.
