Chapter Seventy One: Emergency Meeting of the Rectory of the Commission

INT. WITHIN THE WALLS OF THE RECTORY OFFICE - DAY

The Rectory of the Commission, composed of a Vice Commissioner President and two Vice Commissioners as members, is holding an emergency meeting on the progress of the murder investigation of the Most Loyal Executive Secretary. They are inside the Circular Room with the Rector of the Commission, who is an ex officio member, while the Governor-General was there, as well, and the meeting is progressing with the Governorship-in-General briefing the Rectory on a special report before it is presented to the Commission on Appointments.

GOVERNOR-GENERAL
(Reading from a roll of parchment)
We have determined on a preliminary basis that the Executive Secretary was poisoned by a very potent elixir, a kind which was further strengthened by a stardust. We have profiled the poison from the residue found from the body, and we have arrived at the conclusion that the murderer is, in fact, well versed in Astrology.

The Vice Commissioner President gasped after hearing that the stardust has been used, while the members of the Rectory showed shock upon hearing the confirmation of what they dreaded to be true.

RECTOR
(Also showing bewilderment)
Are you sure, Mr. Governor-General? That the stardust have been used? These are banned substances, illegal since the last century. Where did it come from, and what was the element of the elixir?

GOVERNOR-GENERAL
(Nodding his assent)
The elixir contains Axiocide, a direct catalyst that speeds up the reaction with gold, and can only be concocted by a skilled Alchemist. This poison is so potent that death is almost certain after it was ingested. As for the stardust, an Astrologer must have it provided. And whoever did just that violated the law.

More gasps for air. What was being discussed wasn't possible; it simply cannot. The Vice Commissioner President dared to speak.

VICE COMMISSIONER PRESIDENT
(A voice of concern)
Then we must inform The Good Government at once! This is treachery if what you are saying was true. The Commission must receive a resolution from the Supervisory Council in order to add to the urgency of the matter and catch these traitors once and for all! This is simply unacceptable.

GOVERNOR-GENERAL
(A tone of regret)
I regret what was happening as well, Your Excellencies. We have trusted the Astrologers for far too much. But we will still dig into the matter deeper, and come up with persons of interest. The investigation is just taking off, and more sparks are expected to fly. I trust that the Rectory will delay calling an election, as we cannot afford to prorogue the Commission at this time. I will also ask the Rectory for more Writs of Investigation for this particular case.

It didn't take a long while for the Commission to agree to grant more Writs of Investigation. The Rector of the Commission cannot wait to report to the Commission with the progress made. These murderers must face the full extent of the law, and the Commission will want to know as soon as possible on when that would be.
