Chapter Sixty Seven: As to the Manner of Death
INT. INSIDE THE COMMISSION'S HOUSE PLENARY HALL - DAY
The Rector of the Commission was addressing the Commission from the Government's despatch box, answering questions on the investigation as to the murder of the Most Loyal Appointed Executive Secretary.
The Rector was in the middle of his speech.
RECTOR
(On a loud voice)
As to the manner of death, it is quite clear to us from the Rectory that the murder was carried out by supernatural means, since the investigation started without any further delay. It is within the competence of an average mind to conclude that His Excellency was killed by an Astrologer.
There were gasps from both sides of the Commission, most of them cannot contain their shock and bewilderment. The Rector paused for a while while the Deputies of the Commission soak it all in.
RECTOR
(Continuing the speech
with the same tone)
For this reason, the Rectory of the Commission will ask this Honorable Appointments to authorize the Attorney-at-Large to issue further investigative warrants for the Governor-General to inquire with those that may be involved in this brutal murder. I shall ask for a vote on the matter later on in today's business.
The Deputies clapped their hands in this portion of the speech, acknowledging the diligent efforts of the Government to catch whoever was the murderer in this instance. The applause subsided and the speech continued.
RECTOR
(Continuing)
We are very saddened by this latest development, and we regret to inform the Honorable Commission on these latest findings that will put the Astrologers in a scandalous position. But we shall have no other choice. The Most Loyal Appointed Executive Secretary has served this Commission and our Union with so much passion and dedication that he deserves to rest in peace by catching those responsible for his death, and then put them to justice.
Again, more applause. Even the Official Opposition shows no resistance from what is being requested. The Rector is almost finished.
RECTOR
(More on a serioys tone)
I have decided to postpone the prorogation, in consultation with the President and Members of the Rectory of this Honorable Commission through the Appointed power granted to the Rectory and to my official capacity, and focus, instead, in the investigation of this murder. Let us hope that the culprit will be caught sooner, and let him face the consequences of his cowardly act. And now, I shall ask for a vote in the name of the Rectory.
The Most Noble Speaker quickly got up from the Speaker's Chair.
SPEAKER
(Shouting)
Division of the House.
Clear the lobby!
