Chapter Seventy: The Supervisory Council of The Good Government

"Do you believe them, Rudolph? Do you think the Astrologers have done it? Does that make sense to you?"

Rudolph Resinlore, the Chairman of the Supervisory Council of The Good Government, recognized the questions with due consideration, and thought about it for awhile. He needed to chew his words first, careful not to make a mistake of inference. The way things unfolded was very fast that everybody was caught in the whirlwind of the confusion in the current events.

Finally, he spoke: "Is the Commission on Appointments ever wrong? You seem to forget the history, Theodore."

Theodore Fiendish, the Ranking Member of the Council, didn't know how to respond to that. He understands history enough to somehow deduce the events that are coming next.

"They are always wrong," he said blankly. And what he said was true, though, although no one will admit it out in the open.

"You know how politics works, and this case is no exception. The Official Opposition is fully aware of the consequences of meddling with the invisible hand working in our midst. This is now the point of no return." Rudolph seems resigned to argue any further.

"The invisible hand? Do you think now is the appointed time?"

"Yes," the voice was cold with fear.

There is nothing else to add to that. If this was indeed the appointed time, then the Astrologers must be in great peril. There were no prophecies that were left unfulfilled, especially in predicting wars, battles, and extreme chaos. But they know what the future holds, and that is why they became Astrologers. They cannot go down without fighting.

"The fighting near Gawkins? Was that a part of..."

"Yes. Indeed."

"Then that means..."

"Yes."

Theodore nodded. "I see. Well, I guess we have to fight for this land even if it means taking our lives. Our souls will forever reside in this sacred place, and no amount of thread from the Spindle of Hate can discourage us from defending our home."

Rudolph was staring at a distance. "Easier said than done, Theodore. You are all too aware of our crimes, and they are here to avenge their defeat. We can only delay the Agreement's effect."

"I guess that is true, too," said Theodore.
