Chapter Fifty Five: For the Defense

It was now the time for the Tenth Kingdom to make their opening statement. The Main Barrister stood up, looked closely at the members of the Judicial and Bar Council, then considerably faced the people in the Session Hall.

He began to speak:

"We are here to advocate for an increasing freedom and more autonomy in local affairs within the several States as a matter of unifying factor for the effectiveness of the Appointments. Throughout the hearing, we will prove that the Secretariat of Parochial Concerns possesses enough power to hear grievances from the controversies arising from affairs and relations between and among these States that has a claim on their Appointed prerogatives as a matter that may not necessarily invoke the extension of the authority of the Commission on Appointments."

"We will show before this Honorable Council that increasing meddling in internal affairs among the respective States that comprise the Commission is counter-productive, and, in fully, contradicts the spirit of union that bonds these States together towards a common, broad Appointed power."

"Unjust enrichment and unfair practices within local and parochial activities necessitates a remedy arising from the States within themselves and invoke their Appointments, to safeguard their own pursuit of common patrimony, and while the Commission may act on several issues provided by law, this instance is not one of them."

"The territorial integrity of the Tenth Kingdom requires that it may defend the same by delineating lawful actions that will keep its authority within its borders as a glaring proof of its ownership over its own dominion. For the Commission on Appointments to pierce this clear division will open a pandora's box for the Judicial and Bar Council into accepting Causes of Action they will later on regret."

"It is the interpretation of the Appointments that is the important element of this controversy, and nothing more. We will prove that there is no Appointed power affected by these tariffs and other acts being questioned, since the ability to levy them is a characteristic of the Tenth Kingdom as an assertion of its sovereign rights."

The Main Barrister paused for a while. He approached the bench and carefully considered the members of the Judicial and Bar Council before concluding, for dramatic effect.

"Your Rightful Honors, the failure to meet the needs of the individual Appointments will ultimately weaken the very foundations of the Commission's authority. It will eventually open a can of worms, from which there is no point of return."

"Thank you."
