Chapter Six: The Southern Commons

As soon as the embargo was implemented, the Speaker of the Southern Commons has convened the House to debate on what diplomatic action must be taken next. The tension is slowly rising, and a cold war between the two Kingdoms will only make matters worse.

The Prime Minister of South is sitting behind the despatch box, ready to argue his case against refusing to pay import duties, before a chamber packed of discontented politicians. His coalition government has suffered major setbacks in recent months, while he is trying to keep his fragile government enjoy the confidence of the House.

Major questions are tabled in this Session, especially from the Opposition side of the Chamber, who has called his actions as "irresponsible, arrogant, and undiplomatic." In the Government side, some coalition members are also asking for clarifications because major industries are affected by this unexpected embargo.

"Mr. Speaker," the Opposition Leader said in a very passionate, loud voice. "May we ask the Prime Minister why he has not informed the Chamber of his decision to stop the payment for import duties of imported potions from the Tenth Kingdom before he actually implemented his plan? Major businesses will be affected by his recent actions; he is putting our industries in jeopardy; he is undermining our diplomatic relations with the Tenth Kingdom; and now we are under the mercy of the Commission on Appointments."

The Opposition Leader quickly sat down after his query. Meanwhile, the Commons have started to heckle the Prime Minister the moment he stood up to answer the question.

"Mr. Speaker," he began, reading from his guide. "We have carefully considered this action with prudence and a lot of caution. The Secretary of State for the Exterior have repeatedly filed diplomatic protests against unfair trade practices in the ports of the Tenth Kingdom, but we have not received any favorable action regarding this matter. It is in this unfair situation that the government asks for the arbitration of the Commission on Appointments, primarily to safeguard our interests at home."
