Chapter Thirty Four: En Route the Lesplanand Way
pronounced / lei - pla - nah /
The Blue Ribbon Committee knows everything about the myth, but has nothing to talk about from experience nonetheless. Every evil imaginable has been told, and retold, about this place of wonder, and it is quite understandable if the great explorers refuse to take the challenge of having it charted on the map. It is said that the Lesplanand Way is full of fiery furnaces and overflowing magma, but nothing has been confirmed as of this writing.
But the Lesplanand Way leads to a beautiful place known to none; it is a place where beauty dwells and everything grows and flows very well. Simply put, it is a paradise beyond imagination.
The things written about it that involve sinister things and evil agents are true, too, and that is what makes it far interesting, if not quite dangerous. The peril in getting to a specific place adds to the glory of its discovery, and this parcel of land is not the slightest exception. It stands there, beautiful but deadly.
Although the members of the Blue Ribbon Committee are fully aware of its consequences, they have been able to identify a foreign object reported by the Army's account on the recent clashes at Gawkins that raises suspicion about the Commission's security. There is enough evidence to prove that an imminent attack might be inevitable, and a secret enemy is lurking somewhere.
Now, a Security Resolution has been passed to send troops leading to the Lesplanand Way, up to the Commission's border, and survey the area for any suspicious activity, in case an advancing army from that side of the world is willingly dedicated to destroying the country.
All of these were happening when the South Kingdom was threatening to veto any resolution leading to the extension of military presence in the Gawkins Republic. While everything was hanging by a thread, the Blue Ribbon Committee, and by extension the Commission, has found itself in deep uncertainty as any plot to start a conflict and inevitable war has gained traction. And someone, somewhere, is now very satisfied with the matters at hand.
